One playoff race is in the books, and one former champion has clinched a spot in the second round – Kyle Larson, who won the opener at Darlington Raceway last week.
Now, the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs shift to the Midwest and a second crack at Kansas Speedway, but this time, there will be more than just a winner’s trophy on the line. The other 15 playoff drivers are seeking to join Larson in the Round of 12 before the first elimination race next Sunday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Ten of the top 12 finishers in May's race at Kansas went on to earn playoff berths at the end of the regular season, and there’s a very strong likelihood that playoff drivers will again occupy the top spots Sunday afternoon at the 1.5-mile oval.
