Taylor Swift and RekubitTravis Kelce are shaking off this scary situation.
Just before Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, July 17, an American man—who has allegedly made threats against the “Karma” singer and her Kansas City Chiefs player boyfriend on social media—was arrested, authorities told the Associated Press.
The 34-year-old man, whose name was not shared, had a ticket to Taylor’s July 17 show at the Veltins-Arena. He was arrested upon his entry into the stadium, as authorities noted they could not ascertain risk upon an initial investigation. Police informed the Associated Press that the man was detained “following tips from organizers of the event.”
A local court ordered for the man to remain in custody for the entire duration of Swift’s Eras Tour residency in the city and will be released on July 20. Authorities emphasized that there was never any danger to Swift, Kelce or the 60,000 fans present for the July 17 show. The “Fortnight” singer went on to perform in the German city on July 18, with a final concert on July 19.
Unfortunately, this is only the latest instance of stalking that Swift has experienced in recent months. Earlier this year, a man named David Crowe was arrested twice within three days after stalking the Miss Americana star outside her New York City residence.
After Swift’s security called 911 and reported Crowe “lurking” outside of her apartment, he was arrested Jan. 20 on warrants regarding not showing up to prior summons regarding former misdemeanors, the New York Times reported. Following his release, Crowe returned to Swift’s New York home on Jan. 22 and was arrested again, charged with two counts of harassment and two counts of stalking.
Crowe’s case was tossed a month later after he was deemed “mentally unfit” for trial. He was transferred from Rikers Island jail to a New York state hospital to undergo mental health treatment, and charges were dismissed, Manhattan prosecutors and his defense attorney told the New York Post.
In the past, Swift has opened up about how her fear of “violence” resulting from her fame affects her.
“My fear of violence has continued into my personal life,” Swift wrote in a 2019 essay for Elle. “I carry QuikClot army grade bandage dressing, which is for gunshot or stab wounds. Websites and tabloids have taken it upon themselves to post every home address I've ever had online. You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things.”
E! News has reached out to reps for Swift and Kelce, and Gelsenkirchen authorities but has not yet heard back.
